Hello

Hi! Are you new here? Come meet the artist!

I'd love to get to know you better, and if you'd like to know a little more about me,

you've come to the right place. Should we start way, way, way back? I think so.

For me, it's all about the details.

I was always creative and liked to build things, even as a child.

My grandparents and parents encouraged me to draw, sketch, paint, and use tools like saws and a hammer. I grew up on a farm near the Great Smoky Mountains in Tennessee, where there was always something to do, and we learned early on that chores had to be done before we could play. Gardening, canning food, picking blackberries, putting up hay, and watching the honey bees get robbed gave me a special appreciation for nature. Even with all the work that had to be done, we always had a flower bed. It was a priority!

We built forts out of found materials & trees we cut down, dammed up the creek with clay & rocks to create swimming holes, and spent hours playing in the woods with homemade wooden guns & swords courtesy of my Granddaddy's workshop. My mother provided us with every crafting material imaginable, while my Grandmother made dolls & sewed clothes. I still have my homemade Cabbage Patch doll, one of my most prized possessions. Being a homeschooled, country kid wearing hand-me-downs and driving around in rusted-out cars,

I sometimes thought we were missing out on the best life had to offer.

But let me assure you that we were the luckiest kids on earth,

and we didn't even know it.

That is where my imagination took root and truly blossomed!

The Sweet Life

My husband John and I lived in Hawaii before moving to California, where I trained to become a cake decorator. We eventually returned to our roots near the mountains in Rome, Georgia, where I became a founding member of Honeymoon Bakery. After 20 years of designing cakes, it was tough to choose a few photos to showcase, but I settled on 17 since the bakery is 17 this year. I wanted to share a behind-the-scenes look at some of the cool things I have had the opportunity to be a part of during my career, including designing hundreds of wedding cakes, creating countless armadillos (as an ode to Steel Magnolias), sculpting and hand-painting various designs,

making gingerbread houses, teaching decorating classes,

2 national competitions in Chicago and Las Vegas for IBIE Baking Expo and much more.

In 2021, I partnered with an amazing pastry chef to compete on Food Network's Holiday Baking Championship Gingerbread Showdown. And the best part? We won!

Being blessed to work with art, through cake design, for all these years has given me the foundation to explore new opportunities.

I am incredibly proud of all that we have accomplished at the bakery and look forward to seeing what the next 20 years hold.

Finding Fitness

You may have noticed that there was a point in life where I came to a crossroads.

In 2014, at the age of 40, after 25 years of wanting more for my health and well-being, I met a coach who changed my life.

Bladimir taught me balanced nutrition, mental fortitude, to fight for what I want, to listen to my body, lift weights, and,

most importantly, to believe in myself

Through the ups and downs of life, I can honestly say the following ten years leading up to 50 were a very different picture because of his teaching and patience. I will be eternally grateful to him for the things I learned and hope that, in some small way,

it inspires others to know that they can go for it, too.

Having my spouse support me through thick and thin and a coach who never gave up has been my motivation and heart.

You can't imagine what you are actually capable of until you really give it all your effort and then some.

Get Inspired - Art of 22 Studio & Toddy Tornado

. Turning 50 marks a new chapter in my life. The page was turning, and the studio was calling me.
With John's support, we embarked on a build-out that never ends. Another creative endeavor!
Over the years, I have created beautiful pieces of edible art and dabbled in concrete, wood, and metal
to bring my eclectic style to our home.
And now all of this has come together in one single discovery:
Gaffrey Art Material's heavy texture acrylic paint that can be used like frosting.
A visit to the studio hom
e of artist Justin Gaffrey, a trunk full of paint, and one year later, here we are!

The next chapter in my life will involve learning to digitize my original art and become more proficient on the computer.
Who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks?

Speaking of dogs, it wouldn't be an introduction to my life if you didn't meet Toddy Tornado, the studio doggo. My little shadow gives me an excuse to walk in the woods or ride a bike when I should be working. All in the balance of life, I think.
I am finding that the secret to staying inspired is to keep learning and exploring!
Stay inspired friends!

@gaffreyartmaterial to check out that amazing paint!!!
